A young boy named Elliott discovers and befriends a gentle alien he names ET.  After sneaking the alien into their home , Elliott along with his brother and little sister decide not to confide with their mother or anyone about ET”s existence but after ET falls ill government intervention and a dire situation enfolds for both Elliott and ET .
